As announced some months ago the Uniface.info web site will migrate to new a version.

On October 1st, 2012 the website will have a new look and feel, new functionality and a lot of your feedback will have been implemented.

The most important changes will be:

1. All recent updated information will appear on the Home page

2. There will be a new area which supports blogging

3. Downloads, Media and Articles will be reorganized in a more logical fashion, keeping as much existing content as possible.

4. All discussions on the Forum will be 100% migrated. The (sub) categories and content will not change and you can keep on using it as before.

5. Better and easier search capabilities.

In order for the migration to go as smoothly as possible we kindly ask you from now until the end of September to only use the Forum functionality of the old web site until the new site goes live.

All member information will be transferred to the new site and you will get an email with a new temporary password which you can then reset once you log-on. When you log in for the first time, a small notification area will appear, asking you to change your password.

On Saturday, September 29 and Sunday, September 30 the old Uniface.info the migration will take place and you will not be able to access Uniface.info. On Monday, October 1st the new site will go live.

If you have any questions about the migration please don't hesitate to respond to this post.

Hi Ton,

thanks for the promising announcement.

Hope we can get the "se all new indicators by just scrolling the first page down" back, even if 80% of the once-a-month-lookers refuse to scroll down.

I just had my first experiences with the new layout.

First, I could not login because my existing password was not accepted.
Had to request a PWRD reset with all its nice trimmings.

And the dashboard shows only 5 last replies(!) not the last topics.

I had to go to the foum, scroll down to the bottom of the page to get the last 5 adressed topics I was used to (and found this topic to reply to)

So I voted "needs improvement": If one change from topics to single posts, we need a substantial increase in the number of items shown.

The current sertup makes it even harder to provide others a good service; for me it is a reason to stay away from uniface info.

at the bottom of each page, we see a black block with links to members, wishlist, etc. activating the link does not work at all, as it looks.

Hi Ulrich,

Thanks for the feedback. I've changed the dashboard to show the last 5 topics, not replies. A compact overview of the last 9 posts has been put at the top of the overview page of the forum tab, so you don't have to scroll all the way down. We're currently updating the black block at the bottom of the page, it should be working correctly as soon as possible.

Hi Tim,

thanks for the fast change.

It's easier to pick up what has changed.

Uli

Looks good. Could you change the mouse-over colour for the tabs at the top? Grey text with a white background on mouse over is not very readable. Maybe change the mouse-over text to black or something with a higher contrast?

I just types something, and decided it was too snarky for public consumption.

Front page no longer lists unread items in any recognisable form, just historically newest. There is not read or unread indicator on the front page. This does not make scanning for updates any easier. Clicking about between the tabs does show unread items, for the forum (no idea for blogs etc)

The original comments involved the inability to see at a glance from the front screen whether anything had changed since the last visit. This is not improved by this changeover. Confused

Hi Iain,

sometimes, the goodies are harder to find now.

If you are on top of the forum page, you have
on the righthand side
below the 2 dropdownlist (which are longer than I can scroll down on my browser)
a light grey area to manage the "topics with unread posts".

And In the what's New Tim Blankers gave us the last 9 topics with the latest posts

Not the one overview of all new issues in all areas with one opeartion of the mouse-wheel, but for me, this is equivalent to the one we had before.

Wishlist is not operational so far and I have not found a way to see whats new in the download area,
but I think Tim will provide us a good support in the next couple of days with an incremental delivery.

P.S. since we have the new system, I improved my ability to sum-up w/o the urge for a calculater

Hi Uli,

Yes, I know that if I click around on the tabs I can see the new topics, but then this was true of the 'altered' compuware.info page, and was in fact what we complained about at the time.

It would be better if the unread posts indicator was on the front screen. Surely.

Mean time, I've also noticed that there is no way for me to set my timezone, so the times on the forum posts are offset from my own time. Making it tricky to determine whether they are in fact new.

... and there is no chat option for us snickerpusses.

I agree with you. The way we powerusers (we 2 hold some 30% of all the posts) need the system,
it needs a lot of further improvement (have you seen the wishlist is not avail ricght now, but their comments are now in the normal forum, very convenient).

Perhaps Ton can persuade Tim Blankers to move it a bit more into our direction as time goes by.

Yo can find "change the timezone" if you go to your profile Tab "Options" => "Edit Display"; perhaps this can help you with the timing. (I miss the tiny red markers as well)

Hi Tim,

is it possible to change in the DOWNLOADS the top part from "Most popular Downloads" to "Latest Downloads"?

So that at least Iain and myself can have sopport for our early-morning-whats-new-scan.

Hi everyone, a couple of things have changed:
- The text on tabs mouseover is now readable
- The downloads section shows the most recently added downloads
- The media section shows some presentations as wel as videos
- Links in the bottom section have been reorganized
- The media section on the frontpage shows a random image from the most recent gallery

What is currently being worked on:
- Wishlist
- A way of marking unread forum posts on the frontpage

Hello,
I use RSS feed to watch what's new on uniface.info. I've been quite happy with that for several years. After this "major update" the RSS feed has changed a bit.
On an "old" site, the RSS feed (named Uniface Community) showed me in the form field who posted what. On this "new" site, I use RSS feed named "Uniface - All Forums" and in this feed all posts seems to be from "Uniface - All Forums"; so if the author does not include his/her signature in the post, it's impossible to tell, who wrote it. Confused

Would it possible to change the RSS feed to show the author of the post again? It would be really helpful. Wink

Zdeněk

Suddenly, I have noticed, there is a user name in the Subject. My bad, sorry for any confusion I might have caused.

Hi Uli,

It is now possible for users to add new downloads by going to the Downloads page and click "Add new Download" or go to your dashboard by hovering on "Uniface" in the most top left corner and to Downloads>Add New.

The downloads could do with a two step operation, where there's a page detailing what the download IS before you actually download it. Also, on the what's new page, they could do with an upload date, to show whether they are new or not.

Can one link to the downloads from the forum pages to allow for discussion as to what they are? I don't see any sign of BB Code in this editor.

Iain
